SAN MARCOS

SAN MARCOS

This stunning Renaissance façade, now a national parador, boasts a rich history as a former headquarters, hospital, and prison, attracting curious tourists.
Its façade is one of the most outstanding examples of Spanish Renaissance. It consists of a single wall with two bodies, topped with openwork cresting and candlesticks. The building, now a national parador, has a rich history, having served different purposes over the years. It was the main headquarters of the Order of Santiago for the Kingdom of León and a pilgrims' hospital, later used as a convent, concentration camp, prison (with the illustrious Francisco de Quevedo as an inmate), mission house, among others.
