GARDENY TEMPLAR CASTLE

This historic site showcases 12th-century Templar architecture, featuring a residential tower and a Romanesque church, set on a strategic hilltop.
A living testament to 12th-century Templar architecture in Catalonia. Located on a strategic hill, it was granted to the Knights Templar after the conquest of Lleida in 1149. The commandery was established in 1156 under the leadership of Friar Pere de Cartellà. In the 13th century, it became a key decision-making center of the Crown of Aragon. Highlights include the residential tower and the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, despite later military fortification changes.
