TEATRO CHAPÍ

This historic theater, inaugurated in 1925, features a blend of Neo-Mudéjar and Neoclassical styles, making it a cultural gem for visitors.
The Chapí Theater in Villena dates back to 1885, when the first theater-circus bearing the same name was inaugurated. It is named in honor of Villena-born composer Ruperto Chapí, known for his zarzuelas and operas. In 1908, due to the lack of safety measures, the original theater was demolished, and construction of the current building began, which was inaugurated in 1925. The construction process lasted for several years and combined various architectural styles. The stage area and side facades were designed by José María Manuel Cortina in Neo-Mudéjar style, but the works were halted in 1919 due to a lack of funds. Later, the project was resumed by the Garín Brothers architects, who completed the main façade in Neoclassical style. After a renovation in the 1990s, the theater reopened in 1999 and is now one of the main theatrical venues in the Valencian Community.
