CHURCH OF SAN SEBASTIÁN
This historic church features a lively annual celebration with bonfires, piñatas, and traditional dishes, creating a vibrant community atmosphere for visitors.
The Church of San Sebastián was originally built as a hermitage in the 16th century. It has undergone several renovations over the years, significantly altering its appearance. The Brotherhood of San Sebastián, deeply rooted in local tradition, celebrates the saint's feast day on January 20th, honoring the 'Patron of the olive pickers of Villanueva de Córdoba.' On the eve of the celebration, a lively fair takes place in the San Sebastián neighborhood, with large bonfires that neighbors leap over. Piñatas are hung for children to break and find gifts. Locals prepare traditional dishes such as 'tostás' (toasted breadcrumbs) and 'torreznos' (fried pork belly), sharing them with the community in a festive atmosphere accompanied by the town's music band.
