Located in the city center and flanked by El Muro, a 3 km long promenade, this beach is one of the most famous urban beaches in the Cantabrian Sea. Access to the beach is via a series of numbered stairs from 0, next to the church of San Pedro, to stair 16 at the opposite end. La Escalerona is number 4 and is one of the city's most famous public constructions and a meeting point for the people of Gijón.
