ROYAL COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF SAINT MARY THE GREAT

This building is a landmark of the Andalusian Renaissance, fusing late Gothic and new Italianate styles, notable for its exceptional design and proportions.

The importance of this building lies in being the first conceived in the Renaissance style in Andalusia. It is truly an exceptional work due to its proportions and the quality of its design. It combines two different stylistic criteria; on the one hand, we find elements reminiscent of the late Gothic, and on the other, its traces and various decorative elements correspond to the new style emerging in Italy. The construction can be dated to the years 1514 – 1550.
